Green Building goes Africa: Erasmus+ Cooperation with Rwanda Starts Now

The Erasmus+ application with Sub-Saharan Africa has been approved! The study program Architecture – Green Building will collaborate closely for three years with the School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE) at the University of Rwanda. Students and faculty members from both institutions will exchange knowledge, learn from each other, and jointly explore new pathways for sustainable building.

The project will start in summer semester 2026, when students and a lecturer from Rwanda will come to Hochschule Campus Wien to actively participate in the SUSCOOL International Summer School 2026. There, they will work hands-on with wood, earth, and other regenerative building materials, gain intercultural experience, and further develop their technical skills.

In 2027, lecturers from Hochschule Campus Wien will travel to Rwanda to support the Faculty of Architecture in establishing a Master’s programme of its own, thereby strengthening sustainable education in the long term.

This Erasmus+ project uniquely combines research, teaching, and continuing education. Students broaden their knowledge, enhance their technical and social skills, and gain first-hand access to global perspectives. Faculty members benefit from new impulses, international networks, and opportunities to test innovative teaching methods.

For both institutions, the cooperation opens up possibilities to develop international curricula, transfer knowledge, and build long-term partnerships. The project not only strengthens institutional structures but also contributes to sustainable development at local, regional, and global levels.

With this exchange, we are sending a strong signal: education, practice, and international collaboration can go hand in hand – and together transform the future of building.
