In the Design 5 course, students from the fifth semester of the Bachelor’s degree in Architecture – Green Building worked intensively on the design of a house for elderly people and children in need of care under the guidance of healthcare architecture experts and teaching architects Andrea Bódvay, Andreas Wörndl and Veit Pedit. “I conceived this exciting design task under the aspect that the promotion of social interaction through innovative, interdisciplinary architectural projects in the healthcare sector can contribute to the socially relevant problem of ‘ageing’ if it is continuously pursued,” explains Andrea Bódvay. After intensive teamwork, the students submitted the most innovative concepts from the course for the “Student Award for Healthcare Architecture” for healthcare architecture.

The students Marc Handel Mazetti, Caroline Holzer and Klaus Pernsteiner from FH Campus Wien achieved one of the two second places with their design “Connected – roof for young and old”. Their architectural concept scored points with, among other things, a highly detailed elaboration of well-considered functionality and orientation, as well as intermediate spaces that create very good connections between the individual areas. “The successful combination of indoor and outdoor space, as well as public and semi-public space through the element of ramps, which creates many high-quality places with a high quality of stay, was particularly emphasized,” Andrea Bódvay is pleased with the success of her students. The jury also rated the high level of detail and the clear, intuitively understandable color codes very positively. The students were delighted to receive prize money of 2,250 euros.
