Ein Projekt der FH Campus Wien

The Green Building Lab serves as the central hub of architectural studies at FH Campus Wien. It is a creative space for discourse, hands-on work, model construction, design, drafting, and collaborative processes. The Architecture – Green Building program at FH Campus Wien is distinguished by its clear focus on sustainable architectural concepts. It integrates creative and technical competencies with socially relevant aspects to develop visionary solutions and implement them in a practice-oriented manner.

Students acquire in-depth knowledge of circular design principles, innovative building materials, and integrative planning- and construction processes. The program is structured in an interdisciplinary and application-oriented manner, offering a broad understanding of circular solutions. Students develop comprehensive design and planning skills, covering adaptive reuse, residential construction, public architecture, urban design, and district development. Special emphasis is placed on the social dimensions of architecture, including spatial analysis, participatory processes, and research and development.

A core component of the program is the exploration of innovative building materials within the Green Building Lab. Through hands-on experiences in the Design|Build Studio, students engage with integrated construction systems, ranging from modular timber construction and earthen architecture to regenerative insulation materials.

Another central feature of the curriculum is Integrative Planning, conducted in collaboration with civil engineering students. This encompasses all phases of the construction process, including infrastructure and energy planning, structural analysis, building physics, and building services engineering.

The range of research projects focuses on resource conservation, recycling, deconstruction strategies, life cycle assessment, certification processes, and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). The findings from the research activities are directly integrated into research-led teaching, equipping students with the expertise necessary to respond effectively to the current challenges of the construction industry.

The demand for experts in circular construction is steadily increasing, both in new construction and in the revitalization of existing structures. Graduates of the Architecture – Green Building program are highly sought after in architectural firms, the creative industries, the construction and real estate sectors, research institutions, environmental agencies, and public administration. Our goal is to produce future architects who develop creative solutions for tomorrow’s challenges, thereby contributing to the improvement of the quality of life in a sustainable built environment.
